'Ajitated'

Yo!

Have had a few sessions out on the water since my last post so I'm trying to remember the ins and outs as I post this.

My most interesting session was a couple of Sunday's back where I was just scratching around for species. It was going pretty averagely when I noticed a stream of bait appear, I am talking millions of tiny whitebait turning the water black. I'm not going to lie that I got a little bit excited at this stage, however after 5 mins or so of casting in, over and around the bait nothing had remotely happened. My heart began to break.

However, suddenly the tip of my rockfish ul was violently doubled over and I had a frantic run. Now my first thought was a mackerel which was fantastic as id never had one on the lrf set up, but it was it's close cousin in the Aji! Now if you've never caught one, I urge you too. They are great little torpedoes that tailwalk, dive deep and swim at you rapidly! I did eventually end up with my mackerel that I'd wanted for ages too!

Now, we all know that fishing can be frustrating, and seemingly this session was. I'd just loaded my daiwa megaforce up with some new 6lb braid, and the Aji turned up, this meant I'd stuck on a metal on and was lobbing it out a fair distance. My naivety got the best of me as I hadn't let the line bed in and I ended up with many wind knots that resulted in losing a lot of line. Annoying!

But overall a very fun session.

The one that got away

Lee and I headed out for an LRF session around old Portsmouth on Thursday evening, for those of you that know it Old Portsmouth has many nooks and crannies where you can drop a line. Whilst spoilt for choice on marks, species are often restricted to pollock, wrasse and bass. I'm not complaining about this at all but I'm not gonna say I wouldnt be over the moon for a surprise flounder! We started off at a low water mark where there was a lot of fry around, at first we were happy with the signs of life but we quickly realised that makes it that bit more difficult, I managed to frustrate a couple of small gobies though. Once high water had arrived we headed over to probably my favourite spot in the area, Victoria pier. This is where i have had my best sport on my new LRF adventure over the past year or so. A first time for everything

So I've always knew there was a few goldsinny around a certain spot in old portsmouth. However, I also knew they were fairly difficult to weed out amongst the smaller corkwing wrasse and blennies that tend to patrol the area.  That being said I've always hoped on managing it, and this week I actually did. The session started well, and earlier than the physical fishing had. Throughout my working day I'm lucky enough to overlook portsmouth harbour and I had seen birds working closer to the camber than I ever had before, so that was my first stop, after 5 or so minutes the birds reappeared and there was bass surfacing around me, managed to tempt one from what turned out to be a very shy shoal. Once the shoal dispersed I switched to the isome and a size 12 barbless hook to dropshot, this was actually an attempt at targeting the previously mentioned goldsinny.
